In October 1998 redbrick ran into two major problems. The first problem was the loss of one of its best admins, plop. The second problem was a huge increases in the incidents of "screen bombing". What followed included mistakes, system crashes and questions about Redbrick's security, privacy and user's privacy.

Plop was replaced by John Bolger as system admin who shortly afterward installed a patch which had not had a full security check and left a dangerous flaw in the system. Plop wrote an exploit for this and Redbrick crashed, and as a result John retrieved the source code from Plop's directory without permission from the committee or plop.

At the 2006 freshers event, the canvas RedBrick banner was tied to railings outside the venue. It started raining, and we didn't think to take in the banner! It got sticky, the letters peeled off, the ink ran, and pretty soon we had a mess. To make matters worse, we folded it, leaving ink where ink shouldn't be.

Soon, we will be printing a new banner, designed by one of you. To have a look at the submissions so far, or to submit your own, go here. The closing time for entries is 11.59pm on Sunday July 15th.
