Apologies: Charlene, Eoghan.

Matters Arising

There were no matters arising from the minutes of the previous meeting.

Increasing Usage of RedBrick

Possible deletion of unused boards was discussed, along with the creation of a more user-friendly web interface. Tina asked for suggestions regarding incentives for new users to join, but nothing concrete was suggested.

Attendance at Events

The rest of the events this year will all be held on campus, with the exception of a possible paintballing trip which will be held off campus. It was suggested that there should be more regular bar nights, and more events with a non-alcohol orientation. Use of free club/bar passes also to be explored.

Tech Week

  • Timetable: The timetable for Tech Week is to be finalised after meeting with

representatives from the other societies involved on Tuesday 22/02/2005 at 2pm.

  • Advertising: Posters can't be finalised until after this meeting, and committee

members on campus Wednesday are to put up posters and hand out flyers. Lecturers are to be approached about announcing the talks at lectures. Mailshots detailing the timetable for the week to be sent out as soon as possible.

  • Games Soc: According to John, Games Soc will hold a talk on the "History of Games"

at 6pm on Wednesday of Tech Week, followed by a 16 player Halo 2 Tournament. There will also be a 2 hour "Intro to Java Game Programming" workshop on Thursday.

  • Speakers and Sponsorship: Speakers are still to be finalised, with no success as yet

regarding sponsorship from The Education Fund. Sponsorship from O2 requires 3 months notice, Elan only sponsor sporting events and IBB haven't gotten back to us. Michelle is to investigate Cisco as a possible sponsor.

  • Fotosoc: Fotosoc offered to do a Photoshop tutorial, RedBrick are to hold one already.
  • Wavehunt: A web page has been set up displaying the details of Wavehunt, and MPS are

possibly to film it on the day.

  • Web: A possible Tech Week page was discussed.

Helpdesk Tutorials

Upcoming tutorials include the Basic PHP tutorial on the 22/02/2005.There will be a Photoshop tutorial by loki@rb and a CVS tutorial by doc@rb in the following weeks, with dates yet to be finalised. After this helpdesk will hold the usual exam tutorials.

Admin Tutorials

Admins felt that in-person tutorials were a waste of time, mostly due to lack of attendance. Other avenues for tutorials were discussed, including use of a mailing list where the admins can distribute problems for the tutees and advise via mail. A focus on RedBrick related problems was suggested, rather than general admin issues.

Table Quiz

Prizes were discussed again, with the iPod shuffle and UGC card emerging as the most popular choices for prizes. Tina suggested spot prizes should be sourced as last year by going into shops and asking them to donate prizes.

Emperor@rb to be approached about writing the questions. It was suggested that committee could take a round each, or even some of the rounds, but it was the general consensus that having one person take responsibility for writing the questions would make more sense. Some of the rounds may still be written by others.

Tina requested to MC on the night, and the rest of the committee to work correcting, collecting and distributing answer sheets, and selling tickets for the raffle.
