Excerpt from Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) [webster]:

Flask \Flask\, n. [AS. flasce, flaxe; akin to D. flesch, OHG. flasca, G. flasche, Icel. & Sw. flaska, Dan. flaske, OF. flasche, LL. flasca, flasco; of uncertain origin; cf. L. vasculum, dim. of vas a vessel, Gr. ?, ?, ?. Cf. {Flagon}, {Flasket}.]

  1. A small bottle-shaped vessel for holding fluids; as, a flask of oil or wine.
  2. A narrow-necked vessel of metal or glass, used for various purposes; as of sheet metal, to carry gunpowder in; or of wrought iron, to contain quicksilver; or of glass, to heat water in, etc.

{Erlenmeyer flask}, a thin glass flask, flat-bottomed and cone-shaped to allow of safely shaking its contents laterally without danger of spilling; -- so called from Erlenmeyer, a German chemist who invented it.

{funLiam}, Famous but sinister flask, of the Thermos variety. World renown, by figureheads of all denominations and power; inspiration and source of help to many of these. Notable prescences at key historical and political moments of many varieties. Also noted for his great orating abilities and personal outlandish policies that have been included in manifestos throughout a political career. Astonishing alleigance to his suporters blamed for his huge political and social popularity.

Recently (and since his appearance here in 1998), this icon has devoted some time from a busy schedule to Redbrick, a society close to his heart. Some vicious rumours have occasionally surfaced, and many have blamed these for his poor performance of 9 votes in the 1998-99 Redbrick AGM. Founder of the TLA (Thermos Liberation Army), which was recently disbanded due to copyright restrictions on the acronym TLA.
