Description
Ceilingcat was funded by the SPC in 2007. Prior to it's arrival the room had a 21" CRT taking up most of the desk, and various old desktop machines, none of which seemed to actually work.
To solve this werdz, lil_cain & receive picked pretty much the cheapest parts they could find, along with the cheapest 22" LCD screen they could find.
Ceilingcat was purchased by receive, and assembled by werdz. It's mainly used to burn disks, and use firefox, but it has also been used for extra storage, testing etc. We used it a couple of times to netboot other machines, and to host a Solaris VM which was used to kickstart Murphy. Not only that, but it has a very loud sound system that coconut and sonic like using in order to relieve deathray-related stress.
In early 2010 it was connected to the new Dell Powervault disk array (Worf; we needed to see if the damn thing would turn on), so for a few brief weeks of its life it had the best set of disks of any Redbrick machine, and possibly the best set of disks of any DCU machine.
